The government has authorised the national tourist office to spend up to €10 million over the next two years on online advertising campaigns.

Portugal’s government has authorised the national tourist office, Turismo de Portugal, to spend up to €10 million over the next two years on online advertising campaigns, with €7.5 million to be used this year, according to a statute published on Friday.

The joint order from the secretary of state for tourism, Rita Marques, and the secretary of state for the budget, Cláudia Joaquim, was signed in late December and authorises multiannual spending on the contracting of services for the planning, implementation, optimisation and monitoring of media purchases for the online advertising campaign, up to the amount of €10 million.

To promote Portugal as a destination, the Turismo de Portugal is running an international digital media campaign in 2022 and 2023.

According to the legislation, a pre-contractual procedure has already been launched for a framework agreement, “entered into with an entity” under the Public Contracts Code, aimed at the acquisition of services for the planning, implementation, optimisation and monitoring of media purchases for the campaign.

“Thus, it is important to prepare the conditions so that Turismo de Portugal, fulfilling its responsibilities, can, given the existing context, prepare the execution of the advertising campaign, under the framework agreement concluded,” the text states.
