Sines hydrogen plant involves consortium of 13 entities
A consortium of 13 companies and research partners that includes EDP, Galp, Martifer and Efacec has been selected by the EU to develop a 100 MW green hydrogen production project in Sines.
The production of renewable hydrogen in Sines will go ahead through a consortium of 13 companies and research partners that includes EDP, Galp, Martifer and Efacec, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
“A consortium of 13 companies and research partners has been selected by the European Commission under the Green Deal to develop a 100 MW [megawatts] green hydrogen production project in Sines,” the statement from EDP said.
The consortium will be named GreenH2Atlantic, and in addition to EDP, Galp and Martifer it incorporates companies such as Engie, Bondalti, Vestas, McPhy and Efacec, along with “academic and research partners such as ISQ, INESC-TEC, DLR and CEA, and the public-private cluster Axelera”.
“GreenH2Atlantic was one of three projects selected under Horizon 2020 – Green Deal to demonstrate the viability of green hydrogen on an unprecedented scale of production and technological application,” the statement added.
According to the text, “the €30 million fund will contribute to financing the construction of the hydrogen unit at the Sines thermoelectric power plant.”
“Construction is expected to begin in 2023 and operation in 2025, subject to the necessary authorisations from the authorities,” the statement said.
