Vieira has informed Benfica's governing bodies that he will resign as president of the club and of Benfica SAD, with immediate effect.

After suspending functions as president of Benfica last week, Luís Filipe Vieira has now formally communicated that he is resigning as president of the club and SAD. The information was officially confirmed by the Portuguese club in a statement sent to CMVM on Thursday.

“Benfica SAD has […] learnt that Mr Luís Filipe Ferreira Vieira has submitted his resignation as President of the Board of Directors of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, as well as a member of the management body of the companies directly or indirectly held by Sport Lisboa e Benfica,” the club revealed.

The statement also added that “the Board of Directors was convened to meet tomorrow [Friday] and deliberate on the co-option of a director, whose appointment will result in the immediate implementation of the resignation.”
