Consumer prices up 0.6% in May, up 1.2% YoY, driven by energy costs

According to Statistics Portugal (INE), consumer prices in Portugal rose 0.6% in May, and were up 1.2% from the same month last year.

Consumer prices in Portugal rose 0.6% in May, and were up 1.2% from the same month last year, according to final Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures from Statistics Portugal (INE) that coincide with the flash estimate of the index previously released by the institute.

According to INE, underlying annual inflation – based on the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy products – was 0.6%, having been 0.1% in April.

The aggregate related to energy products was up 9.9% from May 2020, after a year-on-year increase of 8.1% in April, while the index related to unprocessed food products was down -0.1%, having been down -1.1% in April.
