Portugal imposes restrictions on passengers from the UK
The government has imposed restrictions on the entry into Portugal of passengers on flights from the United Kingdom.
The Portuguese government has imposed restrictions on the entry into Portugal of passengers on flights from the United Kingdom, which will now be allowed only to nationals or people who are legally resident in Portugal, the ministries of the interior and health have announced.
The restriction, effective from 00:00 on Monday, was imposed following epidemiological developments in the United Kingdom, where a more contagious variant of the new coronavirus causing Covid-19 disease has been identified.
On arrival in Portugal, passengers who meet these entry requirements still have to submit a negative screening laboratory test for SARS-Cov-2.
According to reports issued by the two ministries, if they do not have proof of the negative test, citizens will be directed to “take the test inside the airport by health professionals”, and remain in isolation.
In Portugal, the circulation of this new virus variant detected in the United Kingdom has not been confirmed, the two ministries cited data obtained by the National Institute of Health which “include analysis of samples from November and the second wave”.
The measure restricting the entry of passengers from the United Kingdom “will be updated in line with developments,” the ministries also said.
