New record: Portugal with 4,224 new cases of Covid-19

The number of people infected with coronavirus continues to increase and, in the last 24 hours, there have been 4,224 new cases.

Portugal set a new record for Covid-19 cases with over 4,224 new infections, bringing to 132,616 the total number of infected people since the beginning of the pandemic. This is a daily increase of 3.29%. The country’s coronavirus death toll has risen 2,428, after 33 deaths have been counted in the last 24 hours, according to the latest update from the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

There are now 54,486 people (active cases) fighting the disease, 2,490 more people than in the previous balance. As has been the trend in recent days, most new cases have been recorded in the Northern region. Of the 4,224 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, 2,474 are in this region (58.6%), followed by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, which accounted for 1,102 new infections (26.1%)

Of the total number of infected people, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 1,834 inpatients, 269 of them in intensive care units. There are over 54,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.
