2,899 new cases and 31 deaths by Covid-19 in Portugal

The number of people infected with coronavirus continues to increase and, in the last 24 hours, there have been 2,899 new cases.

There are 2,899 new cases of coronavirus compared to Thursday, bringing the total number of people infected with the disease to 112,899. 31 people have died in the last 24 hours, according to the latest official report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

Of the total number of infected, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 1,418 inpatients, 198 of them in intensive care units. There are over 55,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

As in recent days, most new cases have been recorded in the Northern region. Of the 2,899 new cases confirmed in the last 24 hours, 1,516 are in this region (52.3%), followed by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, which registered 918 new infections (31.7%).

Since it was detected in Portugal at the beginning of March, the coronavirus has caused the death of 2,276 people, 31 of them in the last 24 hours.
