New record: Portugal with 2,072 new cases of Covid-19

The number of people infected with coronavirus continues to increase and, in the last 24 hours, there have been 2,072 new cases.

The Directorate General of Health (DGS) identified 2,072 new cases of infection by Covid-19, bringing to 91,193 the number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic.  This is the highest daily increase ever in absolute terms and the highest growth rate (2.32%) since April 12.

Of the total number of infected, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 957 inpatients, 135 of them in intensive care units. There are over 48,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

Since it was detected in Portugal at the beginning of March, the coronavirus has caused the death of 2,117 people, seven of them in the last 24 hours.
