Paddy Cosgrave, co-founder and executive chairman of the Web Summit, said on Tuesday that the technology summit “is going ahead this year in Lisbon,” stressing that it will “adhere to the most rigorous health protocols”, as guided by the Portuguese government.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, many international events have been cancelled or postponed.
Paddy Cosgrave said on Twitter today that “Web Summit is going ahead this year in Lisbon!,” without giving more details on the theme.
In another message, Cosgrave added that what is considered one of the biggest technological summits “will adhere to the most rigorous health protocols, as guided by the Portuguese Government.”
In the 2019 edition, the event had more than 70,400 registered participants from 163 countries, almost half of who (46.3%) were women.
Founded in 2010 by Paddy Cosgrave, Daire Hickey and David Kelly, the Web Summit is considered one of the largest technology, innovation and entrepreneurship events in the world and has evolved in less than six years from a team of just three people to a company with over 150 employees.
The technology summit, which kicked off in Ireland in 2010, was held in Lisbon in 2016 and will remain in the Portuguese capital until 2028.
