Portugal has 143 new cases of Covid-19. Total rises to 785

In the 24 hours until last midnight, the Directorate General of Health found 143 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus in Portugal. The total number of confirmed cases rose from 642 to 785.

The Directorate General of Health (DGS) identified 143 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease in Portugal from 642 to 785. The number of fatalities increased to 3.

The data were revealed in the daily update of the epidemiological bulletin, which includes the official figures established until midnight. On Wednesday, the President of the Republic decreed a state of emergency in the country in order to strengthen the fight against the coronavirus in the country. The measure came into force this Thursday and runs until April 2nd, but may be extended.

According to official information, of the 785 confirmed cases, 381 are in the northern region, 278 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, 86 in Centro, 25 in the Algarve and 2 in Alentejo. As far as the autonomous regions are concerned, in Madeira there is one confirmed case and three in the Azores. Of the total number of ‘imported’ cases, the majority were citizens who came from Spain (23), followed by Italy (17) and France (16).

The bulletin also reveals that 89 patients are admitted and 20 are in intensive care units.
