Movement at border of goods, workers restricted in Portugal, Spain
The measure agreed with Pedro Sánchez comes into force today. Between Portugal and Spain only goods and merchandise will pass by land. Tourism and leisure will be left out.
Portugal and Spain are to limit movement on the common land border to goods and cross-border workers because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Portuguese prime minister said on Sunday.
António Costa said that the terms of these limitations will be defined on Monday at a meeting of the ministers of the two countries’ Internal Administration.
This meeting will follow that of the European Union’s Health and Internal Affairs ministers where the issue of the EU’s external borders will be addressed, the prime minister said at a press conference at São Bento Palace in Lisbon.
Costa spoke on Sunday afternoon by videoconference with his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sánchez.
