Portugal has 34 new cases of coronavirus. There are 112 in total

The number of infected by the new coronavirus rose from 78 to 112, revealed the Directorate General for Health.

The Portuguese health authorities registered 34 new cases of coronavirus in Portugal, bringing the total number of infections registered in the country from 78 to 112. The information was released in the daily update of the Directorate General of Health (DGS) on the epidemic’s evolution.

This reading shows that the epidemic’s evolution in Portugal is speeding up, as already expected by the authorities, with the highest number of new cases to be registered in a single day by the DGS. On Thursday, the DGS had reported 19 new cases. It is also the day on which the number of infections passes the one hundred mark, 11 days after the outbreak had reached national territory.

The last DGS daily update also shows that 11 active transmission chains were found in Portugal. There are five new chains since the last update to the bulletin. Most of them, 53, are located in the country’s north. There are also six cases in the centre, 46 in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, six in the Algarve and one abroad.

According to the authorities, 15 cases were imported from Italy, nine from Spain, five from France, three from Switzerland and one from Germany or Austria.

On average, 65% of confirmed cases have cough symptoms, 48% have a fever, 39% have headache, 37% have muscle pain, 24% feel general weakness and 12% complain of respiratory difficulty.

Of the 112 confirmed cases, 107 are in hospital and on Thursday the DGS confirmed the first case of an infected citizen who recovered from Covid-19 after being infected.
