The effort rate of a Portuguese couple renting a 2 bedroom apartment in Lisbon reaches 58%, almost double the 30% reference. In Barcelona, it is 45% and 40% in Berlin.

The price of houses is going up, so is the price of rent. And in Lisbon, the values practiced by the owners are high considering the families’ income. The situation in the Portuguese capital is even more serious than in Barcelona or Berlin, says the Público newspaper.

The analysis carried out by the research group Morphology and Dynamics of the Territory of the Centre for the Study of Architecture and Urbanism of the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) was based on a couple with a dependent, for a 2 bedroom apartment of 95 square metres. It was then made the cross between the income and the value of the rents.

According to data cited by Público, a 2 bedroom apartment in Lisbon has a rent of 916 euros, against 1,170 in Barcelona and 1,491 euros in Berlin. The monthly income of a Lisbon-based family is 1,563 euros, compared to 2,614 euros for a Catalan and 3,727 euros for a Berlin citizen.

Considering these numbers, the conclusion is that the effort rate of the Portuguese couple reaches 58%, almost double the reference rate of 30%. In Barcelona it is 45% and 40% in Berlin.
