The Court of Justice for the European Union confirmed, this Friday, the European Commission’s decision to exclude from Portugal’s financing an amount of almost 30 million euros of expenses concerning agriculture funds.

In August of 2016, Portugal had appealed the EU Court of Justice’s decision of excluding expenses made within the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development worth 29,957,339.70 euros that had been made in June of 2014.

The European Commission excluded Portugal’s expenses amount from the EU financing due to deficiencies in consolidation. Those expenses concerned aid given to farmers, in 2013 and 2014.

In addition to denying the appeal, the judgement sentences Portugal to paying those expenses.
