Rui Bento, to ECO: “Lisbon stands among the cities” which could welcome Uber’s new center

Rui Bento, general manager for Uber Portugal, confirmed to ECO that the North American company is indeed preparing to have a new operations center. And that Lisbon could be the choice.

There is already an official confirmation: the North American company Uber is indeed searching for a place to have a new operations center, Rui Bento, Uber Portugal’s general manager, told ECO.

Rui Bento also confirmed to ECO that Lisbon stands among the cities which could welcome that new center, along with Krakow, Cairo, Limerick and Paris. As previously stated, this new center would create 250 new job positions.

“We can confirm that Uber is preparing the constitution of a new operations center for the European and the Middle-East, and that Lisbon stands among the cities which could welcome this center”, the general manager of the company in Portugal stated.

“However, we are not able to confirm when will this decision be made nor if Lisbon will be chosen”, he added. The news were initially disclosed by Jornal de Negócios, mentioning the Portuguese capital was “well on track for receiving the investment”.

We can confirm that Uber is preparing the constitution of a new operations center for the European and the Middle-East, and that Lisbon stands among the cities which could welcome this center.

Lisbon does have some tricks up its sleeve, namely the significant growth the platform has been having in the Portuguese capital city. Uber got to Portugal in 2014 and is already operating in Oporto and the Algarve, having around 3,000 drives in total.
