Portugal and France will “work together” within the EU towards a monetary union
Emmanuel Macron and António Costa had lunch together this Friday to discuss Europe's monetary and economic unity. They both want to present detailed proposals over the next couple of months.
Portugal and France have “a joint will to move forward with a monetary and economic union” in Europe. Over the next couple of months, Emmanuel Macron and António Costa stated this Friday, in Paris, that they will present proposals on the issue.
"We have the common will to achieve a larger integration in the Euro Area, relaunch investment and monitor the reforms each country should implement.”
“We have a joint will to move forward with a monetary and economic union. We also aim to achieve a larger integration in the Euro Area, relaunch investment and monitor the reforms each country should implement”, stated France’s President, after meeting the Portuguese PM for lunch in Paris, this Friday.
This “reinforcement of the Euro Area” will, therefore, “be a priority” to be work on by both countries during the upcoming months, Macron disclosed.
Among the issues to discuss together (in addition to economic and monetary union), both countries should also discuss safety, economic globalization and climate changes. “We can design new breakthroughs, namely in the security and defense departments. On the other hand, we want to move forward with the compliance with the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement. It is essential to have a better energetic mix and reinforce the Iberian Peninsula connections with France and the rest of the European Union. This will allow a cleaner and safer energy, as well as contribute to France’s goal of reducing the use of nuclear energy by 50%”, António Costa stated.
