The economic climate is also giving positive signs: it has been increasing for the past seven months and it reaches its peak since June 2002, Statistics Portugal discloses.

The consumer confidence indicator has increased again in July, renewing its maximum amount of the series which began in November of 1997, states INE (Statistics Portugal) this Friday. The economic climate indicator is also increasing favorably, especially in the past seven months, reaching its peak since June 2002.

Consumer confidence has been taking on a positive trajectory since the beginning of 2013. According to INE, the evolution of this indicator “in the last two months reflected the positive contribution of the perspectives on the unemployment, on the country’s economic situation and on the evolution of the household’s financial situation, while the perspectives on savings contributed negatively”.

In July, confidence indicators also increased in construction and public works, as well as in commerce and services; it only decreased in the manufacturing industry, interrupting, in this case, the positive trajectory which began in June 2016. These were “the opinions on global demand and on the evolution of stocks of finished products”, which presented a negative contribution to the indicator evolution, since the “production perspectives contributed positively”.
