The President states the IMF forecasts are “very rewarding”

Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered the IMF was the most critical and doubtful of the Portuguese economy's growth.

Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa considered the optimistic forecasts made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are very rewarding, especially because they come from the most critical and doubtful entity of the Portuguese economy’s growth.

“The IMF’s opinion is, in fact, very rewarding. It is very good news, because IMF was perhaps the most critical and doubtful of the economy’s growth”, he stated. Marcelo also emphasized this forecasts is “encouraging” and that Portugal needs to “continue its path”.

“All of a sudden, the IMF states the Portuguese economy’s growth could be 2.5%, that the deficit could indeed be 1.5%, that unemployment will decrease, that the economy is choosing the right path, and that the banking system is recovering; these are even greater news coming from the IMF, than if they came from the European Commission or the European Central Bank“, he stated.
