The PSD/Lisbon has cancelled the race between a donkey and a Ferrari after the Animal Ombudswoman reacted. However, they are sorry the city citizens are deprived from knowing the outcome of the race.

Lisbon’s PSD (Social Democratic Party) has cancelled Friday’s race scheduled between a donkey and a Ferrari.

“The PSD/Lisbon has received today a notification forbidding the second edition of the race between a donkey and a Ferrari”, was the information given by the party in a note sent to editorial offices. However, the Animal Ombudswoman, Inês Sousa Real, told Portuguese news agency Lusa she did not prohibit the race, but only recommended the party “did not use the animal” in their initiative, since “it could harm its well-being”.

In an official statement, the municipal council of Lisbon say they are not responsible for that prohibition. They state they were aware of “the municipal animal ombudswomen’s opinion, recommending the PSD does not use a donkey for the race”. Yet, they explain: “that opinion does not forbid the initiative; and, besides, the Lisbon’s municipal Animal Ombudswoman is an independent structure from the Council services”.

Following these events, we hereby announce the second edition of a race between a donkey and a Ferrari is cancelled; we are sorry the city citizens are deprived from seeing the outcome of this race.
