Jerónimo Martins posted lower nine-month profit despite higher sales, as price pressure in Poland weighed on the Portuguese retailer’s performance.

Jerónimo Martins reported net profit of €414 million for the first nine months of 2026, down 14.5% from a year earlier, even as sales rose 4.8% to €27.8 billion. The update matters because the Portuguese retail group’s performance was affected by food price pressure in Poland, its largest market.

The company said EBITDA rose 7.6% to €1.9 billion, with the margin improving to 7% from 6.8% a year earlier. In a statement published with its financial report to CMVM, Portugal’s securities market regulator, CEO Pedro Soares dos Santos said the period was marked by pressure on food prices in Poland and by households’ strong search for low prices and promotions.

In Portugal, Pingo Doce sales rose 4.1% to €4.1 billion, with like-for-like sales up 2.4%. Recheio sales were stable at €391 million, with like-for-like sales down 1.6%.

Biedronka, the group’s main business in Poland, posted sales of €18.9 billion, up 0.7%, with like-for-like sales down 0.4%. In Colombia, Ara delivered stronger growth: in local currency, sales rose 20.6%, driven by like-for-like growth of 8.2%, while in euros sales reached €3.2 billion, up 37.9%.
