Lisbon wins two European tourism awards
Lisbon has been named Europe’s leading city and cruise destination, a boost for the Portuguese capital’s international tourism profile.
Lisbon has been named Europe’s Leading City Destination and Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination at the World Travel Awards Europe 2026, according to the Lisbon Tourism Association. The awards matter for Portugal’s tourism industry because they reinforce the capital’s international positioning in two key travel segments.
The prizes were awarded at a ceremony in Montenegro in the categories “Europe’s Leading City Destination” and “Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination”. In a statement, the association said the awards recognise the Portuguese capital in two areas of tourism activity.
António Valle, the association’s general director, said the distinctions show Lisbon is a “unique and authentic” destination and reflect “collective work” to improve and upgrade the tourism offering. The association also pointed to the quality of the tourism offer, the value of the city’s heritage and culture, and the diversity of experiences across the Lisbon metropolitan area as key factors behind its international competitiveness.
Earlier this week, Lisbon was also named Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination at the World Cruise Awards in a ceremony held in Jamaica, according to the Port of Lisbon authority. The port authority said the city won that distinction for the third time, after previous victories in 2021 and 2024.
