Mota-Engil adds €685m to backlog with Nigeria, Peru jobs
Portuguese builder Mota-Engil said new work in Nigeria and Peru will add about €685 million to its order backlog, strengthening exposure to transport infrastructure in Africa and Latin America.
Portuguese construction group Mota-Engil said on Tuesday that its order backlog will increase by about €685 million after a contract extension in Nigeria and a new airport project in Peru, adding to business in two of its key international markets.
The company told the market that Nigeria’s transport ministry had increased by $655 million the contract for the Kano-Maradi railway line, which is being carried out by its local subsidiary. In Peru, its unit won the tender for the main works at Juliaca International Airport, Inca Manco Cápac, under a contract that could reach $140 million for client Aeropuertos Andinos del Perú.
Mota-Engil said the Peru airport works are expected to last about 590 days while the airport remains operational. The project includes the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the main 4,200-metre runway, taxiways and the aircraft parking apron.
The group said the two contracts strengthen its position in transport infrastructure in both Africa and Latin America. At the end of the first quarter, Mota-Engil reported an order backlog of nearly €17 billion, with Africa accounting for 49% and Latin America 38%.
