Microsoft has appointed Ana Maria Lopes to lead its Portugal business from September 1, a management change that matters for the company’s local market strategy.

Microsoft has appointed Ana Maria Lopes as general manager of its Portugal operation from September 1, 2026, in a leadership change that will shape the US technology group’s approach to the Portuguese market. She will succeed Andres Ortolá, who led the local business from 2022 to 2026.

The company said Lopes will report directly to Charles Calestroupat, president of Microsoft South Europe. Microsoft said the appointment comes with the start of its new fiscal year and alongside an organisational change in Europe, under which Microsoft Portugal will have a leadership structure dedicated to the national market while remaining closely linked to Microsoft South Europe.

Lopes has worked at Microsoft since 2014 and becomes the third woman to lead the company’s operation in Portugal. Before the promotion, she led the Modernization and Third-Party Sales Solutions area for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, supporting companies in upgrading technology platforms and accelerating innovation.

She previously held roles in the company’s Small, Medium & Corporate and Enterprise Commercial units, and worked on sales strategy for Data Modernization, Oracle product modernisation for Microsoft Azure, and Data&AI in Western Europe. Lopes holds a degree in chemical engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and worked at Accenture before joining Microsoft.
