CP gets two bids in high-speed train tender
Portugal’s state rail operator has received two applications for a €584 million high-speed train contract, a key step in its plan to launch new passenger services.
Portugal’s state rail operator CP has received two applications in the pre-qualification phase of its tender to buy 12 high-speed passenger trains, in a contract worth up to €584 million.
In a statement to ECO, an official company source said the two applications are now under review in the pre-qualification stage. “The next steps are the decision on the qualification of the bidders and the submission and analysis of proposals”, the source said.
The tender, launched in May, covers 12 trainsets, an option for eight more and spare parts, plus full maintenance for two years. The first delivery is scheduled for the first quarter of 2031.
As ECO reported on Saturday, manufacturers including Alstom, Siemens, Talgo and Hitachi Rail could meet the technical and financial requirements of the CP tender, although the company has not disclosed the identity of the two applicants. Once CP confirms which candidates qualify, they will have 90 days to submit formal bids.
