Mota-Engil wins €185 million in new Mexico contracts
Portugal’s Mota-Engil has secured two transport infrastructure contracts in Mexico worth about €185 million, expanding its order book in a key overseas market.
Portuguese construction group Mota-Engil has signed two new transport infrastructure contracts in Mexico worth about €185 million, in a move that strengthens its order book in one of its international markets. The company said in a filing to Portugal’s securities market regulator on Monday that the projects have a combined estimated duration of 16 months.
One of the contracts, awarded through its Mexican subsidiary, covers the construction of an elevated viaduct over an existing road link. The second involves the development and execution of a mobility project in one of Mexico’s main cities, including new infrastructure such as a bridge, road and dedicated public transport lanes.
That second contract also includes the supply of transport systems and the implementation of automatic fare collection systems. Mota-Engil said the new work will support the growth and diversification of its backlog in Mexico and reinforce its position as an integrated engineering services provider with broad geographic coverage in the country.
In the first quarter, the group reported a 31% rise in profit to €35 million, helped by mining operations in Africa and a recovery in Latin America, according to previous ECO reporting. Its order book already represents 3.6 years of activity in engineering and construction.
