Efacec wins its biggest railway contract ever in Portugal
The company bought by the German fund Mutares will develop and supply solutions for the Lisbon Metro, as part of the works to extend the red line.
Efacec has been chosen to develop and supply solutions for the Lisbon Metro, including the construction of traction, low voltage and ventilation power systems. The agreement signed as part of the extension of the Red Line, between São Sebastião and Alcântara, is the company’s largest contract in Portugal in the railway and metro sector.
“The contract now awarded, Efacec’s largest in the railway and metro sector in Portugal, includes the design and construction of traction power, low voltage, ventilation, pumping, SSIT and CCTV systems, demonstrating the national market’s confidence in the quality of the Portuguese company’s engineering”, Efacec said in a statement.
The company, which was bought by the German fund Mutares, doesn’t reveal the value of the contract to provide its services for the extension works on the Lisbon Metro, which are being carried out by Mota-Engil and Spie Batignolles.
Efacec emphasises that its relationship with Mota-Engil and Metro de Lisboa goes back several decades, with the company based in Arroteia, Matosinhos, being responsible for building all the traction substations in service.
“Also noteworthy is the energy remote control system for the entire metro network which, along with various other systems, has been supplied and installed by the company, both in the context of network expansions and in the renovation and improvement of systems in operation”, the company adds in the same press release.
Earlier this year, Efacec announced that it had won a new contract in Denmark to supply electric charging points, less than a week after reporting that it had won a contract worth “tens of millions of euros” in Germany.
