The Bank of Portugal has decided to stop publishing content on the X social media and will create an institutional account on BlueSky, an official source from the central bank told Lusa on Tuesday.

‘As part of the reassessment of its social media strategy, the Bank of Portugal has decided to stop publishing content on X, keeping its account on this platform as an archive,’ the institution led by Mário Centeno said.

‘At the same time, it was decided to create an institutional account on the Bluesky social network,’ adds the same source.

BlueSky is an alternative platform that sees itself as an independent social network.

French daily Le Monde announced in January that it would stop publishing content on X (formerly Twitter), owned by billionaire Elon Musk, who bought the network in 2022, joining other French media (Ouest France, Sud Ouest, Mediapart, La Voix du Nord) or foreign media (The Guardian, La Vanguardia), which have already stopped publishing on that platform in recent months.
