Set up to support Amgen’s global biopharmaceutical business, the high competence and innovation centre, based in Lisbon, represents an estimated investment of €100 million in the country over the next five years.

“The Amgen Capability Center Portugal represents Amgen’s bet and commitment to the country following the selection of Lisbon over other European cities to open our competence and innovation centre in Europe. At the end of last year, we were considered a Project of Strategic Interest for the Lisbon economy by IEFP. This is the moment to take advantage of the opportunities that Portugal offers to generate innovation and efficiency in Amgen,” says Daniel Campanha, general manager of Amgen Capability Center Portugal, in a release.

The centre of excellence in Portugal is Amgen’s second one, after the opening of the first in the United States in 2017, and is intended to provide support for the biopharmaceutical company’s activity in the markets of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, South America and Canada, as well as globally.

In this first year of activity, around 170 people of 27 nationalities and diverse skills have already been hired. “Our goal is to continue to grow and to support Amgen in fulfilling its mission to serve patients”, says Daniel Campanha. In two/three years, the goal is to hire up to 300 people.
