The Portuguese startup now has an office in Barcelona and the team grows to 65 people with the absorption of workers from Happets.

The Portuguese startup Barkyn acquired Happets, a Spanish tech startup founded in 2019 that develops personalised dog food. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

“With the acquisition of Happets we take a big qualitative leap in the innovation behind our personalisation, especially for health conditions and supplementation. Our first transaction of its kind takes us a step further in creating the brand we want to be, a leader and disruptive of the pet [pet] market,” says André Jordão, CEO of Barkyn.

The startup will absorb Happets’ team and will now have 65 workers, divided between Porto, Milan and Barcelona (which used to belong to Happets). “This new chapter for the Happets team, which now integrates the Barkyn team, means delivering to families a top quality product and sharing a mission cherished by all: to give a better life to dogs,” notes Happets leader Elena Fontelles.

Currently with over 70,000 customers, in three countries, Barkyn has already raised a total of €10 million in investment. In April 2021, it completed series A funding, worth €8 million.
