Spanish group to invest €33M in wind farm in Leiria district
The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 33 megawatts (MW), and it is planned to install six wind turbines plus a spare of 5.5 MW each.
The company Infinita Energia plans to invest about 33 million euros (ME) in a wind farm in the municipality of Pombal, district of Leiria, the promotion director, Carina Brás, told Lusa on Wednesday.
“This amount of 33 million euros is the direct investment in the construction of the wind farm,” Carina Brás said.
According to the promotion director, “as soon as the production license is granted, the company estimates a timeframe of 18 months to have the farm built and ready to operate.”
In a press release issued on Tuesday, Pombal council said it had approved at a meeting of the executive “the issuing of a location permit for the installation of a wind power plant to be built in a total area of 787 hectares, covering the parishes of Abiul, Vila Cã and the Parish Councils of Santiago and São Simão de Litém and Albergaria dos Doze.
The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 33 megawatts (MW), and it is planned to install six wind turbines plus a spare of 5.5 MW each on towers 150 metres tall and a rotor 158 metres in diameter.
The construction of a substation with an area of around 400 square metres to store the energy produced by the wind turbines is also planned.
According to the press release, “the project is framed in the planning options included in Pombal’s Municipal Master Plan, without prejudice to the due compliance with the other applicable rules and regulations, and will contribute to the achievement of the goals outlined in the 2030 National Energy and Climate Plan, promoting the production of electricity from a renewable source”.
In addition to the deliberation of the municipal executive, “also the respective parish councils issued a positive opinion to the location of the project,” explained the municipality led by Pedro Pimpão, noting that the process is intended to “to inform the application for the attribution of a production license to be presented to the Directorate General of Energy and Geology, by the promoter.
Infinita Energia, based in Santarem, is part of Spanish group Capital Energy and “has a portfolio of wind projects under development across the country that currently total about two gigawatts,” added Carina Brás.
