Consumer confidence, economic climate indicators recover in July

The consumer confidence indicator rose in July, after having fallen in June, and the economic climate indicator also rose, having declined in both May and June.

Portugal’s main consumer confidence indicator rose in July, after having fallen in June, and the economic climate indicator also rose, having declined in both May and June, while still remaining below the near three-year peak that it had reached in February.

According to the ‘Business and Consumer Surveys’ release out on Thursday from Statistics Portugal (INE), “the consumer confidence indicator increased in July, after having decreased in the previous month, remaining at a relatively stable level since the second most intense drop in the series recorded in March, only surpassed by that of April 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic.”

As for the economic climate indicator, it “increased in July, after having decreased in May and June, remaining at a level below that observed in February when it had reached the maximum since March 2019.”
