Tourist tax generates €19 million in June for municipalities
Lisbon was the Portuguese municipality that benefited the most from the tourist tax, having collected €12.4 million between January and June.
In the first six months of this year, Portuguese municipalities collected over €19 million from tourism fees, according to a survey carried out by Diário de Notícias/Dinheiro Vivo. Yet, the money collected is still below the pre-pandemic figures.
This represents a recovery in revenue of around 650% compared with the same period in 2021, being, however, around 13% below the value recorded in the same period of 2019, pre-pandemic period.
Lisbon was the Portuguese municipality that benefited the most from the tourist tax, having collected €12.4 million between January and June this year. Still, the amount collected by the municipality is still below the amount recorded in the same period of 2019 (€14.6 million). It is followed by Porto, with €4.6 million collected until June.
