Algarve hotels see June occupancy rates close to 2019 levels
The Irish and British markets showed the largest increases compared to June 2019. The biggest decreases were in the German and domestic markets.
Hotel occupancy in the Algarve in June reached figures close to those recorded in the same month of 2019, a reference year for the sector, before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, according to an association of hoteliers in the region.
The Algarve Hotels and Tourism Developments Association (AHETA) says in a statement that “the recovery continues” and puts forward provisional data indicating that the overall average occupancy rate per room in June was 75.5%, 3.3 percentage points below the figure recorded in 2019.
AHETA also reveals that the figure is higher than the average of recent years (72.2%, since 1996) for this month and that, compared to 2021, average occupancy rose 33.5 percentage points.
The evolution of the overall average occupancy rate per room in June varied from 78.8% in 2019 to 11.4% in 2020 (the first year of the pandemic), 42.0% in 2021 and 75.5% in 2022, according to data from the Algarve region’s largest hotel association.
