The government has approved emergency measures for the areas of energy and agricultural food prices aim to provide a focused response to help avoid a spiral of inflationary pressures.

Emergency measures approved by Portugal’s government for the areas of energy and agricultural food prices aim to provide a focused response to help avoid a spiral of inflationary pressures, according to the cabinet office minister, Mariana Vieira da Silva.

“These measures seek to give a focused and targeted response to the problem at hand,” Vieira da Silva said at a news conference following Friday’s cabinet meeting.

The minister said that the new emergency measures aimed at containing the increase in energy and food prices resulting from the ongoing war in Ukraine aim to “protect families, support businesses, ensure social cohesion and ensure economic growth” and to avoid “inflationary pressures” in the economy.
