Since the start of Russia's war, Zelensky has addressed several parliaments in Western countries, including the UK, Canada, the US and Germany, via video streaming.

The leaders’ conference approved this Wednesday a proposal from the PAN Party to hold a solemn session for the President of Ukraine to address the Portuguese Parliament. This decision is only being taken now, after Zelensky has already addressed several parliaments in western democracies, because the Portuguese Parliament was “suspended” because of the early parliamentary elections. The proposal will be sent to Belém for Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to invite the Ukrainian leader.

According to the PAN Party, the President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has shown “immediate openness” to invite the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky to a solemn welcoming session in the Assembly of the Republic, “by remote means”. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has already been in contact with Zelensky since the Russian invasion began. The party led by Inês Sousa Real considers it is urgent “more forceful gestures of diplomatic support for Ukraine.”

“In the document, signed by the MP and spokesperson for the PAN party, Inês Sousa Real stresses the bravery and heroism of the resistance carried out by the Ukrainian people and argues that solidarity with the Ukrainian people and the struggle for a sovereign, independent, free and European Ukraine requires more symbolic diplomatic gestures from all countries committed to such designs,” describes the party in a note sent to news outlets.

Since the start of Russia’s war, Zelensky has addressed several parliaments in Western countries, including the UK, Canada, the US and Germany, via video streaming, and on Tuesday he spoke before Spanish MPs.
