Several Portuguese companies had trade relations with Russia, however, the war in Ukraine has changed the business. For some, reducing dependence on Russia was already planned before the conflict, but there are still those who maintain their business in the country, according to Observador.

This is the case of SGL Composites, a subsidiary of Germany’s SGL Carbon, which produces carbon goods and materials, used in sectors such as automotive, solar, wind, semiconductors and LED. “For manufacturing these products we need acrylonitrile, which we buy from various suppliers around the world and sometimes the origin is Russia, but our suppliers are not located in Russia,” signals an official source of the company that has a factory, in Lavradio, Barreiro. However, the company says it is working to reduce its “independent raw materials and energy needs from Russia whenever possible”.

Oli (sanitary systems) also confirms that it is present in Russia, where the value of the investment is €1.5 million, through a subsidiary and a factory created in 2016. To the Observer, the company signals that the conflict led to the suspension of “planned investment projects”, but that the activity of the factory will be maintained. Oli Russia, a “company with autonomous management”, has 40 workers.
