Portugal welcomes over 10,000 Ukrainians due to war, mainly women, children
According to the Secretary of State for Integration and Migration, in general terms, the profile of those arriving from Ukraine to Portugal is a "mother with two children".
Women represent 59% of the total of more than 10,000 Ukrainians welcomed in Portugal due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, the Secretary of State for Integration and Migration said on Wednesday.
“There are already more than 10,000 people in just over two weeks, almost two-thirds are women, i.e. 59%,” said Cláudia Pereira on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Local Centre of Support for the Integration of Migrants (CLAIM), at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (IPP).
Cláudia Pereira also said that more than a third of Ukrainians welcomed in Portugal so far are children between 0 and 13 years old.
The official said that, in general terms, the profile of those arriving from Ukraine to Portugal is a “mother with two children”.
In terms of male arrivals, most of them are children or elderly given that young people and adults stayed in the country to fight, said the Secretary of State.
