"Despite showing very mild symptoms, according to the national health authority norms in force, he [Rui Rio] will have to remain in isolation for the next few days," a PSD statement said.

The opposition Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader, Rui Rio, has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and will miss Monday’s meetings of the Council of State and the National Council of Social Democrats, the party said.

“Despite showing very mild symptoms, according to the national health authority norms in force, he will have to remain in isolation for the next few days,” a PSD statement said, adding that Rio will also not attend Tuesday and Wednesday’s meetings of the Parliament’s Standing Committee.

According to an official PSD source, Rio had been suffering some mild symptoms since the weekend and decided, in Lisbon, to carry out a test before attending the meeting of the Council of State, the body of political consultation of the President of the Republic, which started at 15:00.

The PSD leader will also not attend the party’s National Council, today at 21:00 in Ovar, which will approve the calendar for his succession.

However, the PSD confirms, in the statement, that the meeting will be held even without the presence of its leader.
