Portugal can accommodate 1,245 people displaced from Ukraine, the minister of the presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, said on Tuesday.
At the press conference after the extraordinary cabinet meeting, which took place remotely, and approved a resolution granting temporary protection to displaced persons from Ukraine as a result of the war in the country, Mariana Vieira da Silva noted the availability of accommodation for these citizens.
“Yesterday [Monday] there was great availability of accommodation and the number we have today is the capacity to accommodate 1,245 people. It is a very significant development,” she told journalists.
According to the minister, the government is “working with various institutions, councils and civil society to have a list of available accommodation”, considering that this is similar to what happened with the situation in Afghanistan.
