Located in the Sicily region, the new wind farm will become operational next year and have six 6.5 MW turbines in the municipality of Santa Caterina Villarmosa and the Petralia Sottana substation.

EDP Renováveis (EDPR) said on Friday that it had secured an additional 39 MW (Megawatt) of wind power in Italy, in the seventh auction run by the Italian government through the Energy Services Manager (GSE).

This project, added to the 385 MW of operational capacity that EDPR already has in Italy and the 160 MW currently under construction, will bring the total power in the country to 584 MW, the company said in a statement.

Located in the Sicily region, the new wind farm will become operational next year and have six 6.5 MW turbines in the municipality of Santa Caterina Villarmosa and the Petralia Sottana substation.

“Work will start later this year so that it can be completed in 2023 and can be connected to the rest of the Italian grid,” EDPR says.

With this new project, EDPR said “reinforces its commitment to lead the energy transition, one of the objectives of its strategic plan for 2021-2025, having foreseen an investment of around €19 billion (out of a total of €24 billion) for the deployment of around 20 GW [Gigawatt] of renewable energies by 2025”.
