Record number of Covid-19 infections, 65,706 new cases

According to the daily epidemiological bulletin, 2,249 people are hospitalised today, a significant decrease in the last 24 hours, 64 fewer than on Wednesday.

Portugal has recorded 65,706 new infections with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a new high since the start of the pandemic, and 41 more deaths associated with Covid-19, figures released on Thursday by the health authority (DGS) said.

According to the daily epidemiological bulletin, 2,249 people are hospitalised today, a significant decrease in the last 24 hours, 64 fewer than on Wednesday.

There was also a decrease in those hospitalised in intensive care units, now 147 (seven fewer than the previous day).

The number of active cases rose to 558,129, a sharp rise of 42,167 more cases.

In the last 24 hours, 23,498 people were reported recovered, to a total of 1,865,651.
