75% of EDP’s electricity was generated by renewables in 2021
In a statement sent to CMVM, EDP reports that "renewable energy accounted for 75% of the electricity generated by EDP in 2021."
Three-quarters of the electricity generated by EDP in 2021 was of renewable origin, with wind power accounting for almost half of total generation, in a year in which hydro decreased significantly following the sale of six dams in Portugal.
In a statement to the market, EDP reports that “renewable energy accounted for 75% of the electricity generated by EDP in 2021”, a year in which “wind generation increased by 5% year-on-year, mainly driven by Europe and Brazil, as a result of greater installed capacity”.
On the other hand, it noted, “hydro generation decreased significantly due mainly to the disposal of 1.7 GW of six hydroelectric plants in Portugal in December 2020, which contributed 3.4 TWh of generation in 2020.”
“Excluding this impact, hydro production in Iberia decreased by 1% in the period, mainly due to weak hydro production in the fourth quarter (the hydro generation coefficient was 57% below the historical average),” reads the statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CMVM).
