Portugal reports new daily record of Covid cases

In the last 24 hours, 43,729 cases of infection and 46 deaths from Covid-19 have been identified in Portugal.

The Directorate-General for Health (DGS) identified a new record of 43,729 daily cases of Covid-19, which brings the total number of infected since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,950,620. Tuesday’s bulletin also shows that in the last 24 hours, 46 people have died from the disease, making a total of 19,380 deaths.

The daily epidemiological bulletin additionally reports an increase in the number of people hospitalised, with 1,955 hospitalisations this Tuesday, 17 more than yesterday, and 160 in intensive care units, 14 less in the last 24 hours.

The North registers the highest number of cases, totalling 18,116, followed by the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (13,987), Centre (6,339), Madeira (2,117), Alentejo (1,394), Algarve (1,160) and Azores (616).

Of the 46 deaths, 26 occurred in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region, 11 in the North, six in the Centre, one in the Algarve and three in the Madeira island.
