Lisbon metro extension to attract another 11M passengers
The extension of Lisbon Metro's Red line is expected to increase the number of passengers in the network by 11 million, the company announced on Monday.
The extension of Lisbon Metro’s Red line, between São Sebastião and Alcântara, will be four kilometres long, including 380 metres in viaduct, and is expected to increase the number of passengers in the network by 11 million, the company announced on Monday.
“Along the double-track tunnel route, three new underground stations are planned (Amoreiras, Campo de Ourique and Infante Santo) and one surface station (Alcântara),” the note said.
The Amoreiras station, according to the same information, will be located along Conselheiro Fernando Sousa Street, close to the intersection of this with Engenheiro Duarte Pacheco Avenue. It is expected to be built in the open air and will have a depth of 18.5 metres, and the Campo de Ourique station will be under Teófilo Braga/Jardim da Parada Garden, with a depth of 31 metres and three access points.
The Infante Santo station will be located between this Avenue and Calçada das Necessidades, on municipal land that has not been built on and is free of any construction and will have a depth of 29.5 metres and two access points.
As for Alcântara station, ML refers that it will be located on the west side of General Domingos de Oliveira Square, on the Access Road to 25 de Abril Bridge. Its limits will be Rua da Quinta do Jacinto to the North, Calçada da Tapada and Rua de Alcântara to the South and Praça General Domingos de Oliveira to the East.
“The expectation is that this extension of the Red line will be put out to tender in 2022 and that it will be opened in 2025/2026,” the company added.
