Portugal records highest number of Covid-19 cases since July

Since the start of the pandemic, Portugal has had 1,130,091 cases and 18,370 deaths from Covid-19.

There are 3,773 new cases of coronavirus compared to Tuesday, bringing the total number of people infected with the disease to 1,130,091. 17 people have died in the last 24 hours, according to the latest official report of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

The average incidence in the national territory rose to 251.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the risk of transmissibility R(t) progressed to 1.20.

Wednesday’s number of cases is the highest since July 23, when 3,794 infections were recorded.

Of the total number of people infected with the new coronavirus, most are undergoing treatment at home, with 681 inpatients, 105 of them in intensive care units (ICU). There are over 49,000 under the surveillance of the health authorities.

Since it was detected in Portugal at the beginning of March 2020, the coronavirus has caused the death of 18,370 people, 17 of them in the last 24 hours.
