Madeira back on ECDC red list for Covid-19
The ECDC map combines the reporting rates of Covid-19 cases in the last 14 days, the number of tests performed and the total number of positives and is updated every Thursday.
Madeira was today placed in the high-risk category for Covid-19 on the map of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), which supports travel decisions in the European Union (EU), moving from orange to red.
After being in the green category in mid-October (relative to the best epidemiological situation on the ECDC map) and having retreated to orange a fortnight ago, Madeira’s classification has worsened again today, moving to red, meaning high risk.
The red category on the ECDC map means that the rate of reporting infection in the past 14 days varies between 75 and 200 per 100,000 inhabitants or is higher than 200 and lower than 500 per 100,000 inhabitants, and the positivity rate of testing is 4% or more.

This map from the European agency follows a traffic light system on the spread of Covid-19 in the EU, starting from green (favourable situation) through orange, red and dark red (very dangerous situation).
It serves as an aid to member states on travel restrictions within the EU.
Mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Region of the Azores remain at moderate risk (orange).
Covid-19 has caused at least 5,122,675 deaths worldwide, among more than 254,952,650 infections by the new coronavirus recorded since the start of the pandemic, according to the most recent assessment by Agence France-Presse.
In Portugal, since March 2020, 18,283 people have died, and 1,112,682 cases of infection have been counted, according to data from the Directorate-General of Health.
