Portugal grows above the European average in Q3

In year-on-year terms, Portugal (4.2%) is in sixth place. The highest growth was registered in Lithuania (6%), followed by Austria (4.8%), Latvia (4.7%), Belgium (4.7%) and Sweden (4.5%).

The country’s gross domestic product increased by 4.2% YoY in the third quarter, growing at a faster pace than the average for the euro area (3.7%) and the European Union (3.9%), preliminary data showed on Friday.

According to Eurostat, GDP on a quarter-on-quarter basis grew by 2.2% in the euro area and 2.1% in the European Union. Also in this perspective, Portugal performed better than average with quarter-on-quarter growth of 2.9%.

In year-on-year terms, analysing the 11 countries for which Eurostat provides comparable data, Portugal (4.2%) is in sixth place. The highest YoY growth was registered in Lithuania (6%), followed by Austria (4.8%), Latvia (4.7%), Belgium (4.7%) and Sweden (4.5%).

Compared with the second quarter of this year, Austria (+3.3%) recorded the highest increase, followed by France (+3.0%) and Portugal (+2.9%). The lowest growth was recorded in Latvia (+0.3%) and GDP was stable in Lithuania (0.0%).
