Consumer price inflation in October rises to 1.8%

"Based on the information already calculated, the year-on-year variation rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will have increased to 1.8% in October 2021," reads the INE release.

Portugal’s Consumer Price Index was in October up 1.8% on the same month a year earlier, marking an acceleration in inflation from the 1.5% recorded in September, according to a flash estimate released today by Statistics Portugal (INE).

“Based on the information already calculated, the year-on-year variation rate of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will have increased to 1.8% in October 2021,” reads the INE release.

According to the institute, underlying inflation – excluding unprocessed food and energy – increased by an estimated 1.1% a year earlier. The rate in September had been 0.9%.

“The year-on-year rate of change in the energy index is estimated at 13.3% (10.5% in the previous month), while the unprocessed food index is expected to have changed by -0.7% (-0.4% in September),” the INE said.
