"In the week ended on September 19th, the daily economic indicator (DEI) and the corresponding biennial rate evolved in line with previous weeks," the Bank of Portugal said in a statement.

The Portuguese economy stabilised in the week ending on September 19, according to the Bank of Portugal’s daily economic activity indicator.

“In the week ended on September 19th, the daily economic indicator (DEI) and the corresponding biennial rate evolved in line with previous weeks,” the central bank said in a statement.

The stabilisation follows the increase recorded in the previous week, which ended on September 12, a period marked by the return of many Portuguese to work after the summer holidays.

A week later, between September 13 and 19, the DEI recorded an average reading of 2.1, signalling that economic activity remained above that recorded in the same period of 2020.

The daily economic activity indicator covers several dimensions correlated with economic activity in Portugal by summarising information on the following daily variables: road traffic of heavy commercial vehicles on motorways, electricity and natural gas consumption, cargo and mail landed at national airports, and card-based payments in Portugal by residents and non-residents.
