In addition to Zurich, the public transport authority in Bern recently awarded Siemens another project for the development of a network of charging stations for electric buses.

They will be produced in Portugal, but their last address will be thousands of kilometres away, in the Swiss city of Zurich, where they will supply 45 new electric buses. In a statement released on Wednesday, Siemens announced that its factory in Corroios, Seixal, will produce 45 charging stations for electric vehicles under a contract signed with the Zurich Public Transport Authority (VBZ) for the supply, installation and commissioning of this equipment.

This network of charging stations will be installed at the Hardau bus terminal and is expected to start operating in early 2022.

According to Siemens, of the 45 Sicharge UC charging stations, 30 will have a 100 kW charging capacity and the other 15 a 150 kW capacity. The buses will be charged during the night. “This installation has the particularity of having the charging cables suspended from the ceiling, leaving accesses free and facilitating the entry and exit of vehicles,” says the company.

The city of Zurich has set itself the goal of reducing direct greenhouse gas emissions in the metropolitan area to zero by 2040. The plan foresees a reduction of at least 50% by 2030.
